Underpressure drilling or ‘hot tapping’ is the process of installing a branch connection onto a live main without interruption to service

The process uses a short section of main, to which an isolating valve is fitted using a mechanical or fusion collar. After the collar is pressure checked to the required pressure. A hole is then drilled into the main to the maximum allowed size through the valve. On Completion the valve is closed and the drilling equipment removed.

Universal drilling machine
For live installation of ferrules, quadrina points and corporation cocks, we can drill and tap upto 2” on cast iron, ductile iron, steel, asbestos cement on any size main.

PQR6000
For installation of branch connections upto a 6” into cast iron, ductile iron, steel, asbestos cement, PVC and PE on any size main using mild steel or stainless steel collars.

Hydrastop
For installation of branch connections into any size mains including cast iron, ductile iron, steel and asbestos cement. Using mild steel or stainless steel collars we are able to drill a hole from 4” to 36” and upwards

NEW Fastcut
The new Fastcut drill utilises fusion technology to install branch connections onto most sizes of PE main for water and gas.

Using a fusion collar is more reliable than traditional collars, and allows us to install valves upto 250mm. The fastcuts hydraulic motor and specially designed drill cup allow us to drill the main in less than a minute retaining the token and the majority of the waste reducing contamination.
